Description

This is a row of six pairs of houses, built in the early 19th century in Southwark. The houses are constructed of amber brick and feature low-pitched slate roofs hidden behind a coped parapet. Each pair is three stories high, with a basement, and has two bays. They are linked by recessed, one- or two-story sections, one bay wide, creating entrance areas. The entrances are round-headed, with a string course marking the arch's springing. The original doors have pilaster jambs – those to numbers 38 to 50 are reeded – cornice heads, and decorative fanlights, although the fanlights are missing from numbers 52 to 60. The door to number 52 has a later stucco arch with a vermiculated key. Sash windows with glazing bars are topped by flat arches constructed of gauged brick. A stucco band runs between the ground and first floors. The interiors of the houses were not inspected during the listing process. Area railings are present in front of all but numbers 42 and 60.
