Description

A forecourt wall and railings dating to around 1898, situated at the South London Art Gallery. The wall is constructed of red brick with stone coping, extending between the two entrances along the main frontage. Low, square stone piers are interspersed at intervals, supporting taller wrought-iron piers topped with gilt fleur-de-lys finials. Ornamental cast-iron railings are set between the piers. Taller piers incorporating lampholders flank the right-hand entrance, which features double wrought-iron gates in an Art Nouveau style. A single wrought-iron gate is located on the left.
