Description
The Guy's Hospital War Memorial is a war memorial arch that was unveiled in 1921. It is made of Portland stone and stands approximately 3.6 meters tall on a slightly raised platform at the southern end of a small garden square within the hospital grounds.
The north face of the arch features the inscription "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE / 1914 - 1919," flanked by the shield of Guy's Hospital on either side. The faces of the piers below are inscribed with the names of those who fell in the war.
On the south side, the arch carries the inscription "ERECTED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE GUY'S MEN WHO / GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR. 1914 – 1919," with the years 1939 and 1945 inscribed on either side underneath. The shield of Guy's Hospital is again present on either side, and the piers beneath are also inscribed with the names of the fallen.
