Description
A pair of houses built around 1840. They are constructed of stock brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with the ground floor and basement finished with stucco and incised lines to imitate stonework. The roof is hidden behind a parapet. The houses are three storeys high, plus a basement, each featuring two windows. The parapet has stone coping and a dropped, moulded cornice. A band runs between the ground and first floors. A recessed pilaster sits between the two houses. The second-floor windows have six-pane sashes with horns on number 371. The first-floor windows are twelve-pane sashes. The ground-floor windows are tripartite sashes, lacking glazing bars but featuring brackets, horns, and cast iron flower guards. Each house has a round-headed doorcase with a semi-circular fanlight, pilasters, and an original door consisting of two fielded panels at the top and two round-headed flush panels below, accessed by a flight of stone steps. The basement windows have sixteen panes. Side elevations include dogtooth cornices. The rear elevation mostly features sixteen-pane sashes. Number 371 retains its original staircase, although the balusters are missing. There is a round-headed arch to the hall, and a ground-floor room with a six-panelled door and a moulded architrave with square paterae. It is reported that number 373 has an original staircase and six-panelled doors, although the fireplaces have been removed.
