Description

The West Norwood Memorial Park Mausoleum of J.P. Ralli, built around 1863 by G. E. Street, is a notable structure located west of the gate in the Greek Burial Ground. This mausoleum features a rectangular plan and is constructed from grey and pink granite, along with white marble and stone. The design is in a modified Gothic style, with a plinth reaching door-head level, banded in grey and pink granite, and topped with an enriched carved continuous band.

The entrance is segmental-headed with a moulded frame and patterned iron grille doors. Above this, the upper section is banded in white stone and marble, featuring a plate tracery wheel window set beneath a pointed-arch pediment adorned with a cross in a square, a band of carved enrichment, and a carved acanthus leaf cornice and finial. The roof is boat-shaped, supported by massive ribs and trefoil cresting. The sides of the mausoleum have inset inscribed plaques and heavy Lombard friezes under parapets, which alternate between pediments and carved acanthus leaves. The rear elevation is distinguished by stepped triple lancets.

The mausoleum is significant for its large-scale, well-executed details and represents a later 19th-century interpretation of Gothic architecture.
