Description
The lodge at the entrance to Kennington Park was built in 1851 and altered in 1898. It was designed by H. Roberts for Prince Albert to showcase working-class housing at the 1851 Exhibition. The building is two storeys high and has three bays facing the road, with a central bay that contains the staircase. It is constructed of stock brick, featuring red brick bands and decorative elements, including gauged brick window arches on the ground floor and stone lintels above. To reduce fire risk, the main structure does not use any wood. Inside, there are brick vaulted ceilings, hollow tile internal walls, slate stairs, and paved and concrete floors.
