Description

Numbers 1 to 18, Aquinas Street, are a group of eighteen houses built in 1911, arranged in two linked rows of pairs. The houses are two storeys high and feature red brickwork with a first-floor band and a terra-cotta cornice. Brick quoins mark the divisions between pairs, and the roofs are tiled with dividing walls, topped by ridge stacks between the pairs. The first, third and fifth pairs of houses have pediments; the central pediment above numbers 14 and 15 bears a terra-cotta panel depicting the Prince of Wales's feathers and motto, and is dated 1911. These three pairs also feature stone keys to the ground floor windows, with the central pair having a rusticated ground floor. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set within flush moulded wood architraves, and are topped by flat, ganged brick arches. A wall with a tall, rusticated entrance arch connects numbers 10 and 11. The houses were built for the Duchy of Cornwall estate.
