Description
St Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary School consists of a school and chapel built in 1844, likely designed by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin. The building is constructed of yellow brick with stone dressings and features a pitched slate roof that extends to the eaves. It has a two-storey, seven-bay wing that runs parallel to the road, with an advanced chapel wing on the left that displays the date of construction. At the intersection of the two wings, there are two towers topped with pyramidal roofs. The main block features four-light Tudor windows and a door on each side with a Tudor arch. The left wing has lancet windows and a two-light Geometrical window facing the road. Although the wall in front of the playground has been somewhat rebuilt, the original Tudor-arched entrance remains intact.
