Description

The Church of St Joseph is a Roman Catholic church located on Bugle Street, originally designed by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin in 1843, although only the chancel was completed at that time. The nave was constructed by F. G. Poole in 1850 and underwent extensive alterations by Leonard Stokes in 1888. The church is built of yellow brick and features stone-framed Neo-Decorated windows, with a slate-hung end elevation. It has a modern slate roof with stone gable ends, which include a saddlestone shaped like a cross and kneelers. The entrance has a pointed stone doorcase with a stone statue of St Joseph positioned above it. Additionally, there is a two-storey extension in a matching style to the north.
