Description
Nos 14 to 25 on Oakley Street, built in the 1860s, form a symmetrical terrace that is stuccoed and consists of three storeys plus a basement. Each house is two windows wide, with rustication on the ground floor. The doors are accessed by steps, and there are prominent keystones featuring masks above the segmental doorways and ground floor windows. The first floor windows have iron guards, and there are stuccoed arches and tympana above them. The second floor windows have segmental heads and keystones. Houses 14, 19, 20, and 25 are set forward and feature quoins, portrait relief busts in roundels between the first floor windows, a bracketed cornice, and a balustraded parapet. Houses 19 and 20 also have prominent dormers. This terrace is noted as a complete example of an improper but richly designed group.
