Description

This is an early 19th-century block of terraced houses, comprising numbers 40, 41, and 42 Carlyle Square. The building is a balanced composition of two, three, and two windows respectively. It is constructed of amber brick, with a stucco ground floor and a dentil entablature below the attic level. The ground floor features arched, recessed openings. Above, the windows have square, gauged brick heads. Continuous iron balconies are present on the first floor. The centre house is slightly advanced and features fluted Ionic pilasters extending through the first and second floors. The first floor windows are French casements, while the remaining windows are sash windows, most retaining their original glazing bars. Area railings are also present. The overall design is similar to numbers 1, 2 and 3 on the opposite side of the Square.
