Description

The gravestone of Joseph Grimaldi is located in Grimaldi Park and dates from 1837. It consists of a headstone and footstone, both featuring an elaborately curved top profile. These stones are surrounded by cast- and wrought-iron railings that were added in the late 20th century. Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837) was a renowned clown and pantomimist, known for his performances as an infant dancer at Sadler's Wells, where he later acted for many years. He also became part-proprietor of Sadler's Wells and was a long-time resident of Clerkenwell.
