Description
Northampton Lodge is a detached house built around 1820. It is located on Canonbury Square in Islington. The house is constructed of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with areas of stucco, and a roof hidden by a parapet. It is three storeys high, with a basement, and has a three-window front, presented as a double-fronted design. A set of steps leads to a segmental-arched entrance, featuring a gauged brick head, a stucco architrave, a fanlight, and double-panelled doors of original design. The ground-floor windows are flat-arched, also with gauged brick heads, and have 6/6 sash windows set within a recessed, segmental-arched panel with a gauged brick head, all linked by a stucco springing band. All upper-floor windows are similarly flat-arched with gauged brick heads; first-floor windows have 6/6 sash windows with iron window guards. The building has a brick parapet and a blocking course. Side stacks are present. Single-storey wings extend to the east and west, curving forward with blank segmental arches to the south and stone parapets. Original iron railings with spearhead and urn finials are attached to the property.
