Description

Numbers 17 and 18 Compton Terrace are a pair of terraced houses built between 1803 and 1809 as part of a development likely overseen by Henry or Jacob Leroux. The houses are constructed of brick and stucco, with slate roofs. They are three storeys high, with a basement, and each has three windows, accompanied by an entrance bay on either side.

Number 17 has a round-arched entrance with a reeded doorcase and a panelled door of original design. The upper two storeys present a two-window range, and these appear to have been added later, in comparison to number 20. Number 18 also features a round-arched entrance, set within a two-storey single-bay wing.

The ground-floor windows are round-arched and set back under a round-arch with a gauged brick head, and are linked by a stucco springing band. A stucco sill band runs along the first floor. The first and second floor windows are flat-arched, topped by a cornice. Round-arched dormers are visible in the mansard roof of number 17, and there are stacks on the party walls between the properties.

The front has area railings with spearhead and urn finials.
