Description
These are a pair of semi-detached houses located on Compton Road and built between 1847 and 1853, developed by George Frasi and James Beaumont. The houses are constructed of yellow brick laid in a Flemish bond, with sections of stucco, and have slate roofs. Number 22 has three windows, while number 23 has two, and they are separated by a recessed panel one brick wide. The entrances are set back and feature stuccoed porches; number 22 has a two-storey porch with a round arch and archivolt, while number 23 has a single-storey porch with a round-arched entrance, cornice, and fanlight. There is a cornice and blocking course to number 23, and an upper-storey round-arched window with architrave, cornice and blocking course to number 22. The basement is stuccoed, and the ground-floor windows are round-arched with gauged brick heads, set back under a stucco archivolt, and linked by springing bands. A stucco sill band is present on the first floor. The first and second-floor windows have flat arches with architraves, with a cornice resting on consoles to the first floor. The windows retain their original sash design. Stuccoed enclosed eaves are present, along with attic windows within the gable returns. The return to number 22 features a modillion cornice, and stacks are located on the party walls.
