Description

18 and 20 Farringdon Lane is a commercial or light industrial building, likely constructed in the 1870s or 1880s, with a ground floor altered in the 20th century. The upper floors are made of rubbed red brick, while the ground floor features polished granite and stucco dressings. The building has an artificial slate mansard roof with dormers and rises five storeys with an attic, being two bays wide. The windows decrease in height as they ascend, with the upper floors showcasing 6/6 tripartite sashes set within recessed brick bays. These bays are highlighted by full-height gauged-brick round-headed arches beneath gables. Square columns flank the central sashes, and banded brick giant pilasters extend to the parapet level, topped with stucco ball finials. The gable finials add vertical emphasis, and there is moulded stucco coping along the gables. The ground floor has been altered, with original bracketed terracotta corbels that were supported by now-obscured piers.
