Description
109 and 111 Farringdon Road is a printing warehouse built between 1864 and 1865 by Henry Jarvis for William Dickes, a chromolithographer. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with painted stone dressings and extensive glazing, and its roof is obscured by a parapet. It showcases a fine Venetian Gothic style and stands five storeys tall with a six-window range, where each window features tripartite sashes in a pointed form. The windows decrease in height as they ascend the building. The second and third storeys have two-light windows with colonnettes, while the top storey has tripartite sashes with pierced trefoil decoration in the stucco recess above the windows. The pierced parapet is adorned with a Gothic-style balustrade. The ground floor features round arches set beneath pointed archivolts, with bays defined by engaged columns. The entrance is located at the left end bay, featuring doors of Gothic design, while the entrance at the right end has been replaced by a window.
