Description
1 and 2 Herbal Hill and 11 Ray Street are two houses that have been converted into offices, dating from around 1804. They are constructed from yellow stock brick arranged in Flemish bond, with stone sills and gabled roofs covered in artificial slate. The buildings rise three storeys, with a raised basement on the Ray Street side. The front of 1 and 2 Herbal Hill features a three-window range, while the left-hand return wall on Ray Street has a two-window range.
Both entrances are located on Herbal Hill. Number 11 has a 20th-century panelled door with plain reveals, while number 1 features a 20th-century shopfront. The windows on the Ray Street elevation have gauged-brick flat arches with 8/8 sashes, and those on the Herbal Hill elevation have 6/6 sashes. There are brick string courses along the Ray Street parapet, with others topped by stone coping.
On the left end of the Ray Street elevation, there is a stone plaque that reads: 'This is the boundary of the Parish of St. Andrew, Holborn Eastwards and 18 feet from the Base of this wall is the boundary of the said Parish Northward 1804.'
