Description
Numbers 1B to 16 Nelson Terrace comprises a terrace of houses dating to 1801-1802. The houses are built of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern. Number 16 has an artificial slate roof, while the roofs of the other properties are hidden behind a parapet. The properties are three storeys high with a basement, and each has two windows, except for Number 1B, which has three.
The entrance is through a round arch with a gauged brick head, with a deeply recessed doorcase under a second arch featuring pilaster jambs, fluted on their inner sides, and a cornice. Pilaster jambs are missing from Numbers 3, 7, and 13, while Numbers 15 and 16 have reeded pilasters and a modillion cornice on Number 16. These doorways feature fanlights with decorative glazing to Numbers 7 and 16, and retain original panelled doors at Numbers 10, 13, and 16. Number 16 has a prostyle Doric portico. The windows are flat-arched with gauged brick heads, with the exception of the first and second floors of Number 16 which have cambered arches. Original 6/6 sashes remain in windows at Number 2 (ground floor), Number 3 (first floor), and Number 11 (first floor). The terrace includes a parapet and stacks to the party walls. Number 1B has been substantially rebuilt. Cast-iron area railings are present, along with an overthrow lampholder at Number 16.
