Description

The building at 5-15 Balfe Street is a group of terraced houses dating from around 1847, constructed by George Crane. They are built of brown brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with dressings of gauged yellow brick and stucco. The roofs are hidden behind a parapet. The terrace comprises three storeys over a basement, with two windows visible on each floor. A flat-arched entrance features stuccoed pilasters and an entablature, above a panelled door of original design. All windows are flat-arched, with heads of gauged yellow brick; the ground-floor windows are set back under a round-arch of gauged yellow brick. A stucco sill band marks the first-floor windows, each of which is also set back under a similar round arch. A stucco cornice tops the building, leading into the parapet. The terrace has undergone significant rebuilding.
