Description

A row of terraced houses, built around 1835, now partly used as offices. The houses are constructed of yellow brick laid in Flemish bond, with some stucco and a concealed roof except for the added pitched roof of artificial slate on number 32. The properties consist of three storeys over a basement. Number 26A has a single-window front, while numbers 27 to 31 each have two windows, and numbers 32 and 33 have three windows, with a double-fronted design. All windows have brick arches. The entrances are round-arched, except for numbers 29 and 30 which are almost elliptical. These entrances feature Doric columns, fluted on numbers 27 and 31 to 33, that support a cornice and fanlight. The fanlights have decorative glazing on numbers 28, 30 and 33, while the fanlight on number 32 is blocked. Original panelled doors remain at numbers 28 to 31. Number 26A has a modern, round-arched replacement entrance. The ground-floor windows are round-arched, except those on numbers 29 and 30, which are almost elliptical. A stucco sill band runs across the first-floor windows. The upper-floor windows are flat-arched, the first-floor windows set back under round arches of gauged brick, connected by stucco springing bands. The original windows remain, with intersecting tracery to the ground floor of number 32 and the first and second floors of number 33. The parapet is decorated with brickwork mimicking triglyphs and guttae, and has been largely rebuilt. Party wall stacks are present. Cast-iron railings are attached to the area.
