Description

The houses at 22 and 23 Sekforde Street are a pair of terraced properties dating from around 1835. They are built of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, although the ground floor of number 23 is painted. The roofs are covered with artificial slate.

The properties are four storeys high, with a basement level. Number 22 has a two-window frontage, while number 23 has three. Number 22 features a narrow, flat-arched entrance with tall, panelled pilasters, a cornice, and a segmental-arched fanlight. It has one window on either side, each with a cambered arch of gauged brick. A brick string course runs between the ground and first floors. Number 23 has an elliptical-arched entrance with a reeded and panelled doorcase, a sidelight and a fanlight, and a carriage entrance to the right. A stucco band is located between the ground and first floors of number 23.

The upper windows are flat-arched with gauged brick heads. First-floor windows at number 23 are set within round arches of gauged brick, linked by stucco springing bands. The original design 6/6 sash windows are retained in number 22 (on the first floor) and in part in number 23 (also on the first floor). The parapet has been rebuilt, and dormers are incorporated into the mansard roof, with chimney stacks spanning the party walls between the properties.
