Description
A terrace of 16 houses built in the 1840s and 1850s forming a symmetrical crescent. The houses are constructed of brown and yellow stock brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco basements, ground floors, and cornices. They have pitched or mansard roofs and party-wall stacks. Each house has three storeys, a basement, and some have attics.
The design is symmetrical, with a side-hall entrance and staircase visible at the front. The ground floor is banded with stucco, featuring segmental arched sash windows, some with margin lights. Number 18 has a stucco portico at its side entrance. The left-hand side has low steps leading to a square-headed doorway, featuring a panelled door flanked by plain pilasters with corniced heads. Above the door is a rectangular overlight with simple glazing bars, and a rosette frieze beneath a console bracketed cornice.
The upper floors feature brickwork with a stucco sill band. The first floor has full-length 3-light sash windows with pediments alternating with recessed architraved sashes. Houses number 19-21, 23, 25-33 have cast iron window guards with palmette and rosette motifs. The second floor has architraved square-headed sashes with lugged aprons. All sashes are recessed. Stucco cornices are present, with blocking courses on houses 19, 20, 21, 22, 26, 29, 30, and 33. Some attics have dormers.
