Description
33 and 34 Alwyne Road are semi-detached houses built between 1847 and 1849, likely developed and designed by James Wagstaffe. They are constructed of yellow brick in Flemish bond with stucco dressings and feature a slate roof. The houses rise three storeys over a basement, each with three windows. The entrance is located in a two-storey outer bay that is slightly set back. The basement has stuccoed banded rustication. There are steps leading up to a flat-arched entrance with pilaster jambs, a cornice, an overlight, and a panelled door of original design. The entrance to number 33 is set back in an added round-arched porch that includes an archivolt, keystone, and panelled spandrels. Above the entrance, there is one window; number 33 has an architrave and cornice on consoles, while number 34 features a cambered arch. Both houses have a cornice and blocking course. The remaining windows are flat-arched, with those on the ground and first floors having architraves and cornices on consoles, while the second-floor windows have architraves linked to the bracketed and moulded eaves cornice. The ground-floor windows are adorned with bracketed balconies featuring cast-iron railings. The houses have a hipped roof and chimney stacks on the party wall. There is a single-storey extension from the late 20th century added to each house.
