Description
12 and 13 Alwyne Road are semi-detached houses built between 1847 and 1850, likely developed and designed by James Wagstaffe. They are constructed of yellow brick in Flemish bond, with stucco dressings and a slate roof. The buildings rise three storeys above a basement and feature three windows each. The basement is stuccoed.
The entrance is accessed via steps in a two-storey outer bay that is slightly set back. It has a flat-arched entrance with a cornice, overlight, and a panelled door of original design. Number 12 has a cambered-arched window above the entrance, complete with a cornice and blocking course, while number 13 has a significantly altered upper storey.
Both houses have flat-arched windows on all floors, with the ground and first-floor windows featuring architraves and cornices on consoles. However, the ground-floor architraves on number 13 do not have cornices and are connected to the second-floor architraves by stucco panels. The second-floor windows have architraves that link to the bracketed and moulded eaves cornice, and all windows have sashes of original design. The houses have a hipped roof with stacks positioned at the party wall.
