Description
The Southern Gate Building at Whitbread's Brewery is an early to mid-19th century structure that has undergone some alterations. It is a single-storey building featuring three windows on the front facing the road. The central bay is taller and projects outward, adorned with a cornice supported by paired brackets and a blocking course above, which has the word "BREWERY" incised in the center. A modern clock is positioned above this central feature. The building is constructed of stock brick, although the side bays have lost their cornices. The round arched windows have only the heads glazed, with keystones and stone sills, while the lower sections consist of blank brick panels. On the north side, there are five bays that include segment-headed windows and doors set within segmental arched recesses.
