Description

Hammersmith Fire Station is a fire station dating from 1913, designed by W.E. Riley. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and stone to the ground floor, and has a tiled roof. The building is five storeys high, incorporating dormers within a mansard roof. It has a seven-window facade, with a southern extension. The design is almost symmetrical. The ground and first floors are united by a giant arcade; a main cornice is positioned above the second floor, with a smaller cornice above the third. Stone pavilions, two storeys in height, project forward to the left and right. Tall slab chimneys are prominent. Group Value lies in its contribution to the streetscape.
