Description

The forecourt wall and gates to the Old Bishopsgate Goods Station, built in the late 19th century, are located on the east side of Shoreditch High Street. The structure features a red brick wall with a wide entrance that has a stone entablature and a tall panelled parapet above, which supports an elliptical oriel bay containing three sash windows. The oriel is made of stone and is adorned with a console bracketed cornice and scrolled abutments to the parapet, along with hoodmoulds over the windows.

The entrance is flanked by double wrought iron gates, each consisting of three panels that feature a large ornamental medallion in the center panel and top cresting. Below the half rail, there are double standards. Extending west from the north corner of the entrance bay is a long single gate that slopes down from left to right. This gate has four panels with medallions similar to those on the entrance gates, along with double standards below the half rail and cresting on the top slope. The date of 1884 is also displayed. At the west end of the gate, a tall ornamental cast iron pier with lamp-brackets secures the gate, which connects to a shorter similar pier attached to the wall on the right.
