Description

This is a pair of blocks containing six flats each, built in the mid-to-late 19th century. They are similar in style to numbers 2 to 32 Bethune Road but simpler in design. The buildings are symmetrical and three storeys high, each fronting ten windows. The third and seventh windows are full-height canted bays, featuring cast iron guards to the first-floor cills, with long, paired brackets that form panels below. The exterior is yellow brick with stucco dressings, including a frieze, cornice on paired brackets, and shouldered window lintels incorporating an inner moulding. The windows are plain sash windows. Each block has half-glazed doors with tall fanlights, both surrounded by classical detail and including sidelights. A pair of central doors, similarly surrounded but without sidelights, give access from the first floor up a full flight of steps. The buildings contribute to group value alongside numbers 2 to 32 Bethune Road, as well as numbers 24 to 54 even, Manor Road, and the forecourt walls to numbers 2 to 56 Bethune Road.
