Description

The British Linen Bank, located at Nos 37 and 38 on Threadneedle Street, is a Grade II listed building dating from 1902, attributed to architect J Macvicar Anderson. This classical building is constructed from Portland stone and features four storeys, with the top level designed as a partly recessed attic. The long frontage includes end pavilions and returns to the forecourt of No 40.

The ground storey is arcaded and rusticated, supported by Doric columns, and has a segmental pediment above the entrance. The two upper storeys are adorned with an order of engaged Corinthian columns and pilasters, with a balustrade at the pedestal level and above the entablature. The pilastered attic is also topped with a balustrade. A single-storeyed lobby with an arched entrance and carved relief above connects the building to No 15 Bishopgate.
