Description
No 13 Bishopsgate is a distinguished, single-storey building constructed in 1865 by J Gibson. It is made of Portland stone and showcases a rich classical style. The building features a long frontage with an entrance at the rounded south-west corner and arched windows. Engaged Corinthian columns are arranged in pairs at each end, and there are panels of figure carving in high relief above the windows. The entablature is adorned with blocking that supports standing figures, both singly and in groups. Inside, there is a fine banking hall that is top-lit and features three domes. The walls are arcaded and have high relief panels of figures above, complemented by marble Corinthian columns arranged singly and in pairs, as well as in two groups of four at either end of the hall.
