Description
The Former Porter Tun Room at Whitbread's Brewery, located on the south side, is a storehouse built between 1776 and 1784 that has been adapted for conferences and entertainment. The lower part of the building is now behind additions made around 1979 by Roderick Gradidge and Wolff Olins. It features brown brick set in Flemish bond and a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a five-window range facing the yard. The flat-arched windows have frames that are almost flush with the wall and are multi-paned. There are bracketed gutters at the eaves and two metal air vents at the west end. The king-post roof consists of thirteen bays, although the two westernmost bays are now partly obscured. This roof boasts the widest timber span in London after Westminster Hall.
