Description
Nos 123 to 127 Cannon Street, including No 4 Abchurch Yard, is a building constructed in 1895 by Huntly Gordon. It is made of bright red brick and terracotta and stands five storeys tall, with a width of three major bays. The design features an asymmetrical composition that incorporates elements of Flemish Renaissance and Art Nouveau styles. The ground floor has a semi-circular and extended round arch, supported by elaborate piers and decorated with foliated spandrels. The first and second floors are adorned with half octagonal pilaster strips and a frieze of foliage above, while the third and fourth floors have a similar design. The building exhibits a variety of window styles, and the roofline is irregular, featuring a statuary frieze on the left and centre bays. The rear elevation facing Abchurch Yard has a similar design but is treated in a more simplified manner.
