Description
A symmetrical terrace of twenty houses forming the east side of Bedford Place, built around 1815 by James Burton. The houses are constructed of multi-coloured stock brick with rusticated stucco ground floors, and have a stucco third-floor sill band. They are arranged over four storeys and have basements, with three windows per house. The end bays at numbers 1-3 and 18-20, and the central bays at numbers 8-12, slightly project forward. The houses have wide, segmental-arched doorways, some with patterned fanlights, sidelights, and double half-glazed doors. Gauged brick flat arches, painted red, are above the recessed sash windows, some of which retain their original glazing bars. Continuous cast-iron balconies are at first-floor level; number 11 has an arched trellis balcony with a tented canopy. The houses have parapets. The interiors have not been inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with urn finials are present to the areas, and some houses have area overthrows.
