Description

This is a detached villa, built in 1842 with later additions. It is constructed of stucco and has a shallow hipped slate roof with projecting eaves and tall, corniced chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high with a basement. The front elevation is double-fronted, originally with three windows, and later extended to the right with a five-window addition. A projecting portico has a cornice and a segmental-arched, architraved doorway with a patterned fanlight, sidelights, and a panelled door. The ground-floor windows are architraved sashes, featuring recessed panel aprons. A sill band runs across the first floor. The garden front features a central architraved French door with margin glazing, topped by a cornice. Flanking the French doors are large architraved tripartite windows on the ground floor, each with a segmental pediment above featuring a roundel. The first floor also has architraved sashes, with the central sash featuring margin glazing.

Inside, the house has an open stairwell with an open string, scrolled ends, enriched cast-iron balusters, and a wreathed wooden handrail.

The villa is one of three built in Millfield Place as part of the Southampton Estate development.
