Description

A pair of semi-detached houses built in the early 19th century, with later additions. They are constructed of yellow stock brick. Each house has two storeys and a double-fronted facade with three windows. A blind, central oculus is located on the first floor.

At number 12, a projecting, round-arched portico of brick features panelled pilaster strips. It has a patterned fanlight and a panelled door. Above the door, an open-work, cast-iron verandah with a tented canopy extends over the central first-floor window. The windows are recessed sashes, with segmental pediments over the ground-floor windows and triangular pediments over the first-floor windows. A stepped brick parapet tops the facade, and tall brick chimney-stacks rise from the party wall and the returns.

Number 13 has a round-arched, architraved doorway that has been altered. The windows are architraved sashes, with console-bracketed pediments over the ground-floor windows. It also has a stepped brick parapet.

The interiors were not inspected. The group value of these buildings lies in their cohesive architectural style and contribution to the character of Highgate West Hill.
