Description

Numbers 8-17 and attached railings form a terrace of ten houses built around 1820-1822. They were likely designed by James Burton. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick, with the ground floors stuccoed (Nos. 8-11 and 16 being rusticated). Stucco bands delineate the first floor level and parapets. Each house has two storeys and a basement. They generally feature two windows per elevation, though No. 13 has an additional central, blind window, and a segmental-arched entrance to a mews. The ground floor has round-arched openings. The doorways are characterised by pilaster jambs supporting cornice heads, fanlights (patterned at Nos. 8, 10, 13 and 15), and panelled doors (No. 8 is a 20th-century replacement). Recessed sash windows have gauged brick flat arches, and the first floor features cast-iron balconies, except for No. 17. The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with urn finials define the areas.
