Description
The monument to Eliza Vaughan, who died in 1858, is located in Highgate (Western) Cemetery. It was designed by Joseph Edwards and features a large marble statue representing Religion. The statue depicts a draped woman standing on a rock, holding a Bible in her left hand while her right hand rests on her breast. Joseph Edwards, the designer, is buried nearby. Historically, Mrs. Vaughan was the wife of a clergyman, and this memorial gained popularity during its time through engravings.
