Description
The monument to John Maple, who died in 1900, is located in Highgate (Western) Cemetery. It was created by the sculptors C Maile and Sons and is made of marble, Portland stone, and grey and pink granite. The structure features a two-stage table tomb. The lower section is a tomb chest adorned with six bas reliefs depicting scenes from the life of Christ, positioned between squat pilasters. The upper stage resembles a table tomb, with a shallow pyramidal slab supported by six colonnettes over a stone coffin that includes inset inscription panels. John Maple was the founder of a highly successful furniture business.
