Description

Numbers 75 to 81 and 81A on Gray's Inn Road are a row of four terraced houses dating from around 1791, which have been altered over time and now include later shops. The buildings are constructed of yellow stock brick and feature slate mansard roofs, with No. 77 having a corrugated iron roof and dormers.

The exterior consists of three storeys, attics, and basements, with each house having two windows. Number 81 has a two-window return that forms No. 81A.

No. 75 features a round-arched doorway with stucco reveals and fluted pilaster-jambs that support a cornice-head. It has a patterned radial fanlight and a panelled door. There is a stucco sill band at the first floor, and gauged brick flat arches above recessed sashes, with the first floor in shallow, round-arched recesses linked by stucco impost bands. A moulded brick band runs along the base of the parapet. The property has attached cast-iron railings with tasselled spearhead finials in the area.

No. 77 has a 20th-century shopfront with late 19th-century consoles. It also features gauged brick flat arches above recessed sashes, with the first floor in shallow, round-arched recesses, and a parapet.

No. 79 includes a round-arched doorway with stucco reveals and fluted pilaster-jambs carrying a cornice-head, along with a patterned radial fanlight and a panelled door. It has a stucco sill band at the first floor and gauged brick flat arches above recessed sashes, with the first floor in shallow, round-arched recesses and a parapet. This property also has attached cast-iron railings with acorn finials in the area.

No. 81 features a mid-20th-century shopfront with a vitrolite fascia. It has gauged brick flat arches above recessed sashes, with the first floor in shallow, round-arched recesses, and a rebuilt parapet.

The interiors of the buildings have not been inspected.
