Description

Number 1 is a semi-detached house built around 1720 and later refaced in the late 19th century by the building firm CB King Ltd. The house is constructed of multi-coloured stock brick with moulded red brick dressings and cornice bands located below the parapet and between the storeys. It stands three storeys tall, with an attic and basement, and features a double front with five windows and a two-window return on the left side. The late 19th-century red brick porch projects from the front and has a round-arched doorway with a radial fanlight and a panelled door. The windows have gauged red brick segmental arches and are slightly recessed, with exposed boxing. The central first-floor window projects slightly and features a fleur-de-lys motif similar to that found at No. 5 Church Row. The parapet is adorned with ball finials at the corners, and behind it sits a hexagonal glazed lantern topped with a flagpole, flanked by box dormers. The attached cast-iron railings with urn finials provide access to the areas in front of the house. The return of Number 1 contributes to a group with Nos 1, 3, and 5 Elm Row. The interior has not been inspected.
