Description
The stables located in the rear yard of the Duke of Hamilton Public House, which is not included in this listing, date from the late 18th century. They are part of a terrace of three cottages that face into the yard on New End Street. The stables are constructed from multi-coloured stock brick and feature a tiled roof. The building stands two storeys tall with basement stables, each cottage having one window. The entrances have cambered arches and plain panelled doors, with No. 12 featuring a 20th-century door and overlights. The ground floor windows are recessed sashes with cambered arch heads. At the rear, there is a single-storey extension with two windows supported by cast-iron columns. The basement at the rear serves as stables and retains original stalls, mangers, and fittings. The interior has not been inspected. Additionally, there is a right-hand return leading to a stepped passageway that includes an old stone plaque inscribed "Three feet west/from this wall/is private property."
