Description

Numbers 40-44 on Burton Street is a terrace of five houses, built around 1810-1813 by James Burton. In the 1980s, these houses were converted into one-bedroom flats. The buildings are constructed of yellow stock brick, with some later refacing in multi-coloured stocks. The ground floor is finished in stucco, and there is a plain sill band at the first floor. The terrace has four storeys and basements, with two windows for each house. The round-arched doorways feature reeded pilaster-jambs, fanlights, and panelled doors. Most of the recessed sash windows have segmental brick arches, and the first floor includes cast-iron balconies. The terrace is topped with parapets. The attached cast-iron railings with urn finials in front of the areas are notable subsidiary features. The interiors have not been inspected.
