Description

Numbers 4, 5, and 6 Burton Place are a double-fronted house, originally built around 1809-1813 by James Burton and subsequently divided into three separate dwellings. The building is constructed of stucco with ashlar detailing, including a prominent band at the first floor level. It rises to four storeys and a basement, with single-storey side entrance extensions. There are three windows to the front elevation. The central doorway, belonging to number 5, features pilasters supporting an entablature above a panelled door. The remains of a former prostyle portico are still present. The windows are square-headed sash and casement windows with glazing bars; the central first-floor window is recessed within a segmental arch. Cast-iron balconies are located outside the first-floor windows. A parapet tops the building. The interiors were not inspected during the listing process. Attached cast-iron railings with urn finials define the areas.
