Description
This is a terrace of six houses, numbers 24 to 29, located on Gloucester Crescent and dating from the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick with channelled stucco to the ground floors and stucco detailing to the first floor, including bracketed window cornices, a third-floor cornice, and a main cornice. They are four storeys high with basements. Each house originally had two windows, although number 29 has an additional window within a recessed entrance bay. Number 24 features a single-story extension on its return. Numbers 25 and 26 are paired, as are numbers 27 and 28. The doorways are flanked by pilasters and feature panelled doors with overlights. The recessed ground-floor windows are tripartite sashes with bracketed mullions; the end houses have two sashes with margin glazing each. All ground-floor windows have keystones and bracketed sills. The upper-floor windows are primarily sash windows with glazing bars, decreasing in height towards the top floor. Bracketed balconies with geometrically patterned cast-iron railings are present on the first-floor sashes. The interiors have not been inspected. The group value of these houses derives from their cohesive design and contribution to the character of Gloucester Crescent.
