Description

Cannon Lodge is a detached house dating from the mid-18th century. The west end was demolished in the late 19th century, and the south front was refaced around 1945 to resemble its original appearance, with additions made at the east end. The building has two storeys, attics, and a basement, featuring an irregular five-window frontage.

The north front has a stucco ground floor and a first-floor band, with fishscale tile hanging on the first floor. It is topped by a high tiled hipped roof that includes dormers and tall brick stacks. On the right side, there is an early 20th-century entrance portico with columns that support a hood forming a bracketed open pediment, along with glazed sides and a half-glazed door. The windows are slightly recessed sashes with exposed boxing. To the left, there is a servants' entrance with a bracketed hood and a half-glazed door. The area is enclosed by elaborate cast-iron railings.

The south, or garden front, features early 19th-century entrances with architraves and flanking pilasters that carry projecting cornices, as well as cast-iron balconies at the first-floor level. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to retain good original panelling, a dog-leg staircase with an open string, turned balusters, carved brackets, and square newels. The building is listed as Grade II* for its interior.
