Description

Springfield is a detached house located in North Nibley, dating from the mid-18th century. It was refronted around 1820 and has undergone various alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a stucco exterior, with random rubble limestone and marlstone, and some brick at the rear. It has brick chimneys and a replacement concrete tile roof.

The house is two stories high with an attic and has two two-story rear wings that create a U-shape. There is an attached garage with an attic at the southeast end. The front of the house has a three-window arrangement with 20-pane sash windows, each topped with incised voussoirs. The central doorway is sheltered by a flat timber porch hood and features a six-panel glazed door. Plain pilaster strips frame the ends of the facade, which is topped with plain parapet coping.

On the left side, the garage has a front gable with plank garage doors beneath a timber lintel, and a 20th-century upper floor casement window also with a timber lintel, all set in a rendered elevation. The northwest side displays a marlstone gable end with a single-window arrangement, featuring 20th-century casements on both the ground and upper floors, along with a small attic casement that has Gothick leading. The rear of the house has two wings flanking a recessed center, and many additions were made in the 19th century, possibly when the house was divided into two separate occupations. Inside, there is a simple early 19th-century staircase with stick balusters.
