Description

A row of eight semi-detached villas was constructed around 1849 by John Shaw for Eton College, and built by S Cuming. The stucco facades have channelled details to the ground floors and ashlar finish to the upper floors, with stucco quoins. The buildings have hipped slated roofs with dormers and bracketed eaves; numbers 13 and 14 feature a cornice and blocking course. Each villa stands two storeys high with attics and semi-basements, and has two windows. They include prostyle porticoes with round-arched side openings, doorways with fanlights and panelled doors (some part glazed), approached by steps. Recessed, architraved, mostly tripartite sash windows are evident; the ground floor windows are accentuated by console bracketed cornices. The interiors were not inspected.
