Description
Number 36 is a detached house dating from around 1890, designed by Harry Measures and built by William Willett & Son. It is constructed of red brick with terracotta dressings, tile hanging to the gables, and rendered gables. The roofs are tiled, with dormers and tall, stepped brick chimney stacks. The house has an asymmetrical design.
Externally, the house has three and two storeys and attics, and two windows. The projecting gabled bay on the right contains a ground-floor porch with a Tudor arched entrance. The spandrels above the arch are moulded with mythical dog-like beasts, supporting a panel of three round-arched openings. To the left, the porch extends at ground floor with a canted bay containing two round-arched stained glass lights, a deep bolection moulded sill, and an ogee roof. A panelled door with an overlight is partly glazed. The first floor has a three-light transom and mullion window with a deep terracotta apron of chequered rosettes. The gable above this has rendered half-timbering, a central sash window, and bargeboards. The projecting gabled bay to the left has four-light transom and mullion windows to both the ground and first floors. The first floor window also features a terracotta apron of chequered rosettes. The second floor is tilehung with fishscale bands and an upswept projecting base supported on paired shaped brackets above the first floor, featuring a three-light Venetian-style window with a small tiled penthouse roof. The gable above has rendered herringbone timbering and bargeboards.
The interior was not inspected during listing.
A stone-coped red brick front garden boundary wall with panels and gate piers is attached to the house. The piers have an enriched terracotta frieze and cross-gabled caps with scrolled pediments.
