Description
35 Goodge Street is a terraced house with a later shop, built in 1767 by Jacob Leroux. The building features a 19th-century shopfront and is constructed of yellow stock brick, topped with a moulded brick dentil cornice above the second-floor windows. The roof is concealed behind a plain coped parapet. The house has four storeys and three windows. The restored shopfront is flanked by slender angle pilasters and includes a display window with curved angles and small-paned lights above. To the right, there is a six-panel door with an overlight. The upper floors have gauged red brick flat arches over recessed sash windows.
Inside, there is a semicircular hall arch supported by pilasters. The staircase features cut strings, shaped tread ends, turned newels, stick balusters, and a softwood moulded rail. The first-floor front room has panelled skirting and a moulded dado rail, along with an enriched modillion cornice and a fine moulded plaster ceiling. This ceiling includes a central roundel depicting woodwind instruments and pages of sheet music, surrounded by swags and scrolls of foliage and flowers. There is also an early 19th-century marble fireplace and panelled shutters, along with a six-panel door. The rear room retains some similar skirting and dado rail. On the upper floor, there is a cupboard with HL hinges, a small Gothic iron fireplace, and a moulded dado rail.
